| | River Design Group, Inc. has completed site surveys and project design for the enhancement of native salmon and trout habitat in lower Johnson Creek near the Willamette River confluence in Milwaukie, Oregon. Limiting factors impacting the native fish community include simplified habitat, elevated summer water temperatures, and loss of riparian vegetation and large wood that once created dynamic habitat. GIS software was used for this project to model the ability of recommended restoration actions to provide preferred habitat for juvenile salmonids. Key project components include: · Evaluation of existing stream corridor conditions that may affect habitat use by salmon and trout species· Providing treatment approaches for addressing the lack of channel complexity and high flow refugia that currently impact habitat use by fish species in the reach· Designing alcove excavation and placement of large wood and boulders for fish habitat· Hydraulic modeling of the project site to estimate habitat conditions at a range of flows
