The Willamette Mission sidechannel to the Willamette River.
| | River Design Group, Inc. is designing reconnection of a remnant sidechannel at Willamette Mission State Park in Oregon. Past modifications to the system have led to isolation and eutrophication of Mission Lake and Slough from the Willamette River. The project is within the range of Upper Willamette River steelhead and Upper Willamette River Chinook salmon, which are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Reconnecting Mission Lake and Slough to the mainstem Willamette River at a broader range of flows is anticipated to result in long-term benefits to the listed salmonids and their designated critical habitat. Key project components include: · Hydraulic modeling of the project site to determine habitat conditions at a range of flows· Reconstructing the inlet to Mission Lake from Windsor Island Slough to Mission Slough· Constructing a 20-foot side low-flow channel from the inlet to Mission Lake· Replacing three 36-inch culverts beneath Beaver Island Road with a single bottomless arch culvert· Replacing the bridge and improving conditions at the outlet to the Willamette River· Restoring native vegetation in areas currently dominated by non-native invasive plants
